Mathematics

The Oswego East mathematics department’s vision is for all students and teachers to be active critical thinkers and problem solvers who contribute positively to the world in which we live and learn. Our mission is to provide opportunities for developing high-quality mathematical skills and abilities with an attitude for success. In every math course here at East, every student should be striving to make sense of problems and persevere in solving them, reason abstractly and quantitatively, construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others, model with mathematics, use appropriate tools strategically, attend to precision, look for and make use of structure, and look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning throughout the learning process. Currently we offer 17 different math courses to fit the needs of our students including five AP courses (PreCalculus, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Statistics, and Computer Science). Freshmen are primarily enrolled in either Algebra 1 or Honors Geometry.  A “typical sequence” for students and course descriptions are available here.
